Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, may soon be sending out birth announcements to announce the arrival of their son, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John.
The child, who weighed in at 7 pounds, 15 ounces, was born on Christmas Day via a surrogate. He is the first child for both John, 63, and Furnish, 48.
"I've never felt anything like it in my life," the music legend recently told US Weekly. "You're so awestruck. What can you say? You take it in. The feeling, the joy, the warmth of his body, his breathing … I will never forget that experience ever."
The couple has been together for 17 years. They were married in a civil ceremony in the UK in 2005.
The birth of Zachary fulfills a long time dream for both men, who admitted to being devastated after their attempt to adopt two Ukrainian orphans earlier this year was rejected by authorities.
While the couple is keeping details of their surrogate private, they say they will be honest with Zachary about how he was conceived.
And, they intend to spend a lot of quality time as a family in the coming months and years.
"We don't want to put the raising of children into the hands of nannies and housekeepers," Furnish told People magazine. "We want to be active parents. We have godchildren [and] kids that we support in Africa, so we're fine."
